Yesterday was quite an interesting one for me. It started with the usual Lagos hustle and fags, not to forget this heat that doesn’t want to give harmattan a chance. I have never anticipated harmattan so much…. sigh. After being sun-kissed and sun-slapped, i suddenly told myself…. Babe, that’s it ! We are going to see a movie.
Before yesterday i hadn’t visited the cinemas in months. So as i landed at Ikeja city mall, i sighed gratefully…. Finally, Me time! Everything seemed strange even though there wasn’t anything particularly new about the place. I guess it was just the typical long time feeling. There wasn’t anything on the movie list that stirred my eagerness. So i settled for a Hollywood movie, ‘the accountant’ with the help of the ticket agent (Who later told me there was no free pop-corn and drink till the end of December).
I had some time before the movie so i sat, pretended to be doing something on my phone while one eye scanned the room. Students, boyfriends and girlfriends, friends, the overdressed, those having ‘me time’ just like me, fake and real people…. the usual mix you would find in a place like that…i smiled.
I was the third to enter the cinema and the movie had started (i entered 10 minutes before the running time). As others entered, they asked the same question, ‘is this the movie? Has the movie started?‘ when someone confirmed it was indeed the movie we wanted to see, i went to make a report. Ten minutes went by and people began to get irritated. Some other people went to complain. Another 10 minutes and they had not restarted the movie. Suddenly people started to get really upset As we all stood up to go and cause a scene and ask for a refund the movie restarted and we all kinda laughed.
‘The accountant’ turned out to be an interestingly weird movie. It made me appreciate autistic children more. The way they view the world and their extraordinary abilities. In all, i will definitely want to watch it again.
I went home feeling refreshed. Sometimes you should really spend time out alone….no tag alongs!
